Healthy Nutrition: Buying Organic Foods

By admin • December 17th, 2009

Organic foods were once available only in health food stores. People who purchased organic products were interested in environmentally safe produce. They did not want foods which were grown with the help of preservatives, chemicals, and additives. Now days, it seems that almost every store carries a certain number of organic products. From fruit to poultry, everything is naturally grown. However, it is also important to note that these products come at a higher price. This is one of the biggest reasons why more and more people are reluctant to buy organic foods. In this article I will help you choose which foods are best purchased environmentally safe.

If you are interested in buying organic food, it is extremely wise to purchase all of your produce naturally grown. Fruit and veggies which are not naturally grown usually contain a high number of harmful pesticides. Peaches, apples, peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, pears, grapes, spinach, lettuce and potatoes are a great buy. All of these foods are usually grown with the help of harmful pesticide and buying them organic is one of the best ways to avoid ingestion. Furthermore, apples are rich in fiber and vitamins, and at only 95 calories per apple they are a great alternative to other sweet treats. Because apples are rich in fiber they can help you lose weight. Fiber is a well known hunger suppressant just like some of the best diet pills (hoodia gordonii).

Another helpful tip when buying organic foods is to look for the USDA organic seal of approval. There are countless products out there which may contain just a few organic ingredients but they are not in fact all organic. So be weary of imposters. These are just a few tips to help you choose the most wholesome foods for you and your family.
